Inspiration: Dita Casual

I'm on a bit of a Dita kick these days. Mostly because I just pre-ordered her new beauty book "Your Beauty Mark" on Amazon the other day. (I'm so excited!!!)

As much as I love Dita when she's fully glamed out, I love her even more in her casual looks. Especially in the summer because I can emulate these looks easily.

Here are some of my favourites:

Sorry folks, I'm not entirely sure where most of these came from. Probably Just Jared...cause I'm a creep like that...let me know if you know where a photo came from and I'll link to them. Or if one of these photos is yours and you don't want it posted here let me know and I'll remove it!

More Room Wanted

Last weekend I made a much needed change to my dressing room. My tiny closet was overflowing again and spilling onto the floor. I was in desperate need of more room to hang things.

Thankfully, being the clothes hoarder that I am, I have several clothes racks in my basement. And recently I sold almost everything on one of them. So after some measuring and some thinking I lugged it upstairs, re-arranged my dresser and shoe shelf and hung all of my dresses on the rack.

Aaahhhh!! The clouds parted, angels sang and light reined down upon me! It was exactly what I needed in there. It gave me another shelf to put some of my summer purses and my hat boxes (which had also been floating around on the floor), and the shelf below to store more shoes!

Looking at my dresses hung here like this every day makes me super happy!

I'd like to get some more white plastic hangers for them so they all match...in time.

And of course Dave had to get in on the photo shoot action. Cutie!

Behold the ugly brown shag carpet! This too will change in time.

Now I've got way more room in my regular closet for the rest of my clothes. I wish I would have thought of this sooner!

Outfits: Patio Season

The summer months in Winnipeg are pretty awesome. The city comes alive and everyone heads outside to enjoy the beautiful weather while we have it. We like to call it "Patio Season". Almost every restaurant in Winnipeg has a outdoor patio. I mean really, what is better than sitting outside and enjoying an ice cold beverage?

Last night The Boy and I and another couple went out to The Forks to have a couple drinks at Muddy Waters river-side patio. It might just be my new favourite place to have a few drinks! We started with the white wine sangria which was ok, but spent the rest of the night drinking their amazing Rum Punch! OMG ! It was so freakin' good!

This is what I wore:

I love this outfit! What's funny about it is that the only vintage item is my purse. Evidence to the fact that you can have a retro look without buying vintage clothes these days. Nothing beats vintage accessories. And you don't have to worry about fit! A purse always fits! lol!

Oversized Polka Dot Dress: Ricki's
Navy Bow Stretch Belt: Suzy Shear (bought on sale for $2.50!!)
White Bangle: Le Chateau
Navy/White Striped Wedges: Forever 21
Vintage Straw Purse: Thrifted, Value Village

I'm done working for Shakespeare in the Ruins now. My contract ended on Saturday. My next gig starts in two weeks for a one woman show which will be in The Winnipeg Fringe Festival! So you'll be seeing much more of me in the next little while. See you soon!

CMC Modeling: Da Da Da Dum

It's not too often I have time to take photos of my outfits when I model for the Costume Museum of Canada's Fashion Review. But this afternoon after the fashion show our new model (and my close friend Jen) was able to take photos of my newest outfit. Today was only the second time I've worn it. It's a replica of a 1911 wedding dress worn by a woman marrying a well to do political figure in Winnipeg. It's quickly becoming my new favourite!

The heritage house where we were doing the fashion show had very limited parking so we parked by a local supermarket and took the Winnipeg Trolley down the street! It was so fun! A highlight of the day for sure!

Here we are! This is my Gibson Girl hair for my first outfit (which is looking a little flat in this photo!).

Hope you all had a great weekend!

One Lovely Blog Award X2!

I have the most amazing readers! I have been nominated twice in the last month by LivingSimplyWell and Lady Jardin for the One Lovely Blog Award!

Thank you so much ladies!  :)

Rules of acceptance (as mentioned by other bloggers):
*thank the person who nominated you and link back to them in your post
*share 7 things about yourself
*nominate 15 or so bloggers you admire
*contact your chosen bloggers to let them know
7 things about myself
1. I am embarrassed to show people I know and meet in person about my blog. I'm a little afraid that they might think it's narcissistic and shallow.
2. I am bad at managing money. I'm trying really hard to make new habits, but it's taking a long time to cement them (I'm talking years).
3. Childish poop and pee jokes give me the giggles. What can I say? I'm immature. I only look like a lady...lol!
4. I love to cook. I find it very relaxing! There is nothing better than making a delicious meal for The Boy and I to enjoy together.

5. I love rockabilly culture, but am not part of it. What can I say? I love old cars. Rockabilly guys are cute and rockabilly girls are always hot! What's not to like?

6. I'm not sure if I want kids. And I am not a baby person. I'm not sure what why women "ooo" and "ahhh" over babies...

7. I don't have a Facebook account. I'm not crazy about the idea that someone I don't know could look me up online and find things out about me. Yes, I know they have security and privacy features, but there is something about Facebook that I just don't like. I actually find it very satisfying to tell people that I live a Facebook-less existence. And yes, I realize that my blog is another form of social media, but I feel as though I have much more control about the content on my blog and in some ways it's a little more private.

Nominated Bloggers
Here are the bloggers I can't get enough of right now (in no particular order):

Thanks again for the award ladies!

Mom's Birthday Lunch

Yesterday my brothers, The Boy and I took my Mom out for lunch for birthday. We had plans to go to another restaurant, but it was closed on Mondays so at the last minute we decided to try out UNBURGER. None of us had ever been and let me tell you we will go back again!

It's not often we're all out together so much silliness usually ensues.

The restaurant is very hip and modern. And yes, the food is VERY tasty! lol!

You order from a counter when you walk into the restaurant and we got Woody here for our table marker. He didn't have his cowboy hat, so we gave him two coke bottle tops.

The Boy ordered some "Edamommy" for us to start with.

The sweet potato fries are so good! My Mom and I orderes "Shareables" which is regular and sweet potato fries with two side dips. We got chipotle and rosemary garlic aioli. The chipotle aioli was my favorite.

This is the Opah! burger. It was delicious as well...mmmm....I want to go back and have another one...

After dinner I asked The Boy to take some photos of us. We only managed to get one serious photo...

Happy Birthday Mom! Love you!

Peonies from Mom

I went to my Mom's for dinner last night (The Boy was at the lake fishing) and came home with a beautiful little bouquet of peonies from her garden! They smell so amazing and have been putting a smile on my face since I got them home! :)

Hope you all had a good weekend! Mine has just started. No show today and I don't have to be back at the Ruins until 6pm tomorrow! Woo Hoo!

Outfits: Backyard Barbecue

The Boy, Dave and I headed to a friends house for a barbecue today. This post is not about the barbecue...it's about something much more important! My outfit! lol!

Here it is:

I know you don't often see me in flats, but really...who wants to walk around someone's backyard in heels? Or wedges? Too casual an occasion for that.

And this skirt? You've seen it before, but I adore it. I wear it constantly in the summer. It goes with everything. I bought it at the defunct Vintage Glory for $15! Well worth every penny.
Oh, and the purse was a steal too! Goodwill: $2! :)

Hair Flower: Claire's
Pink Tank Top: Smart Set
Vintage Flower Brooch: Thrifted
White Rattan Belt: Thrifted
Vintage Floral Skirt: Vintage Glory
White Crochet Flats: Le Chateau
Vintage Straw Purse: Thirfted
Green Cashmere Cardigan: Smart Set
