Inspiration: Keiko Lynn
I love everything about this outfit! The colour, the fascinator, the dress, the shoes, her hair and makeup. It is just perfection. Doesn't hurt that the setting and photography are so stellar!
It is everything I love about wearing vintage. The modern shoes and hair with a lovely vintage dress and accessories.

Remember This One? If Only...
Hey! Remember this Wishlist Post of yore?
Well I am still looking for the perfect vintage kimono dressing gown.
I found a beautiful one over at Dear Golden's Etsy shop. I literally gasped when I saw it.
Here she is in all her loveliness:
Are you a high roller? Buy it here.
But a little out of my price range at $240.
If only...

Tulips are Better Than One
Ok...that was bad...
I'm sorry you had to read that.
What I meant was: I bought some beautiful tulips at the grocery store the other day! All of this live beauty for $5! Can't beat it!
I need to do this more often. These make me happy! :)

Workin' hard or Hardly Workin?
Well Shoot. It's been nearly a week and I've posted nothing!
If you're a long time reader you may already know that an absence of more than a day or two usually means I've gone back to work.
This time 'round I'm working for Shakespeare in the Ruins. They're presenting one of the history plays: Henry V.
The cool thing about working for SIR is that they present Shakespeare's famous works in the open air! And this year (after a 7-9 year absence while performing in Assiniboine Park) they are returning to the St. Norbert Ruins where the company was founded. So I'm pretty excited to be working for them this year on their triumphant return!
If you live in Winnipeg, this show is not to be missed! SIR performs in a promenade style and it's a really fun way to experience live theatre.
For tickets call: (204) 942-5483 (there is a 20% off sale on tickets until May 24th!)

Dressing Up a Gift Card
Sorry I've been away all weekend. Two days seems like an eternity on the internet doesn't it?
I've been busy with family functions. A funeral on Friday and a wedding shower on both Saturday and Sunday.
Oh, and I started work this week. It's Prep Week for my next show.
With all this going on I've had little time to buy shower gifts. So a gift card was in order (And really, who doesn't like spending other peoples money?!). The only problem with giving a gift card is that they're not very visually appealing.
I set out to fix this problem with some pretty vintage wrapping.
Both of the Brides-To-Be got a gift card in a box like this:
The paper is vintage wrapped around a small box with a lid. I wrapped the ribbon so to open the box all you have to do is lift the lid!
And of course, the bow and tag are both hand-made by me!
I wish I had taken a photo of the other box, it was similar, but different paper and I made a different bow and tag. Ah well...
Don't you think this makes getting a gift card so much more special? And you can keep the box!

Wishlist: Trashy Diva Doll Dress
I don't often fall in love with repro dresses. With the wide selection of actual vintage in my size, both online and in store I rarely feel the need to supplement my wardrobe with reproductions.
But this one is different. I'm not sure if it's the blush pink, the sweet pattern or the cute style. Maybe the combination of the three, but I am smitten.
Please be mine!
(My birthday is coming up! If someone wanted to get this for me I'm a size 8! lol!)

Embracing Change and Being True to Yourself
I had a Wishlist post planned for today (you'll see it tomorrow), but it hit the back-burner when I read one of Fleur's recent posts: Identity Crisis.
Here's how she looked in her post the other day:
I was really moved by her post. I, like many girls in the online vintage community, look up to Fleur. For a long time I aspired to her vintage perfection. I wanted curls and red lips and vintage dresses every day of life. I wanted vintage friends, parties and sponsors. (I of course, realize that we post our best selves on our blogs and that everyone has a personal life with trials and tribulations!)
I was going through my own identity crisis. I wanted so much to be a "vintage girl", but couldn't say no to my trendy shoes and modern jeans. I put up a pretty good fight, but it was always a struggle. And I never really felt like "me" when I was wearing head-to-toe-period-perfect vintage. And it didn't mesh with my lifestyle either.
I had to stop. I was mentally torturing myself when I "failed" and wore jeans and a tee-shirt for a day and I felt self-conscious when I wore head to toe 50's or 40's authentic look. It was ridiculous. Fashion and personal style is supposed to be fun. I wasn't having any.
I'm not sure what exactly happened to bring me out of it, but somewhere along the line I gave up. I think I wore tee-shirts, jeans, runners and a ponytail for a few weeks. And eventually this got to me as well. I'd gone to the other extreme.
Again, I'm not sure how I came out of this. I think exasperation led me to stop caring what anyone thought about my wardrobe. I started wearing what I felt like. I Googled "vintage inspired fashion" and saved looks I liked. There was no doubt in my mind that I like wearing vintage, this would be the basis for my wardrobe. I discovered my tastes veer towards feminine details mixed with edgier pieces. I like contrast in an outfit: Something soft with something hard. Masculine and feminine. Old and new.
The other thing I've done is spend more time with my own closet. I used to do this when I lived alone. Play in my closet and try on crazy outfits. Some worked, some didn't. Playing dress up helped me look at the clothes I already own in a new light. I've started this good habit again. The Boy thinks I'm a bit nuts, but what does he know...Many of you good readers chided me for calling my wardrobe "lackluster" the other day. And you are right. I have an amazing wardrobe. Sometimes I have to remind myself of that. So you can see, the battle with my closet continues, but I'm working on it.
But back to Fleur's post. Like I said, I was moved by this post. I know what it's like to want to look one way and thinking I should look another. I feel for her. And I don't have thousands of readers I'm worried about letting down!
I think this whole issue becomes even more complicated with the addition of a vintage style blog. Having such an iconic personal style promoted all over the internet must make this change much harder for her. I'm sure I would be feeling the same thing.
I hope she embraces her personal style change! I look forward to seeing her style evolve!
We need to worry less about what others think and worry more about being true to ourselves, remembering that life isn't static, nothing in life stays the same forever.
What do you think about Fleur's post? Do you like her new look? Have you gone through a personal style crisis? How did you deal with it?Have you tried to go "all vintage all the time"? How did that work out for you? Do you think people expect a bloggers style to stay static for the sake of the blog? Especially with specialized fashion blogs? Am I asking too many questions? I'm just trying to get you thinking.
I'm dying to know what you think about this issue.

Outfits: The Not-So-Lazy, Lazy Day Outfit
This is what I wore last Sunday when I went out to Ruby Slipper with my Mom. It was deadly cold out for the end of April and I was feeling lazy. Jeans and a Tee shirt dressed up it was. I even had dirty hair. lol!
I am addicted to styling my hair in a sock bun! I first found out about this easy, chic hairstyle c/o Kendi Everyday who credited The Other Emily (click here for the tutorial for the amazing Sock Bun!). Pure genius!
So ya...the best way to look chic and be lazy in my opinion is to wear a sock on your head and wrap it in a cotton vintage handkerchief, throw a vintage blazer over your tee and be sure not to wear runners. Voila!
