Sunglasses

I love a good pair of sunglasses. (btw...lamest post name ever...I just didn't know what else to call this one) I wear mine all year round. Summer is a no brainer, but I've got to have sunglasses in the winter too. Too much light reflected off the snow. Makes me squinty.

I tend to buy cheaper sunglasses as I am hard on them (I like to throw them haphazardly into my purse when I'm not wearing them...it's bad, I know...I can't stop) and go through a pair or two a year. Sunglasses are also a great way to update your look without spending a fortune. And I like that.

I showed you my newest pair yesterday. I'm quite smitten with them.

They reminded me of two very stylish ladies:

What would you have named this post? Happy Tuesday!

Outfits: Spring Jacket, No Socks!

Hello again! I'm back!

I'm really loving stage managing again. Coming back to theatre was definatly the right choice. :) It does keep me really busy though. I'm working 6 days a week now. And even on my days off I seem to end up at a theatre. Sundays are my day off and I went to show the new stage manager for Gilbert and Sullivan the ropes around the theatre today. That's what work is like when you love it! You live it.

So here's what I wore today. I do tend to dress down a little when I'm stage managing. Actors come to rehearsals in sweats and casual clothes to work and move in, so dressing to the nines makes me feel out of place. Stage managing can be really hands on and sometimes I'm lifting furniture and doing any number of tasks, so flexiblility in my outfit is essential. I do try to bling it up with vintage jewelry though. I'm trying to look for new ways to satisfy my want of a vintage look with the needs of my new job.

Spring has sprung in Winnipeg and the weather today was delightlful. I've been wearing my leather jacket every day for a week or so now. It's got a nice lining so it's warm enough for the cool mornings. Today is the first day I have not worn socks. I really hate socks. They make my toes feel all constricted.

I've been wearing my hair like this almost everyday. I'm trying to grow it out and I don't want to destroy it by straightening it or curling it everyday. I can put it in a braid wet after I wash it and it still looks cute, styled with a nod to a vintage look. Win, win, win. I have a feeling this may be my go-to style this summer.

Back to Our Regularly Scheduled Programming

Grandpa's out of the hospital, on the mend and headed back home today. I'm relieved. I've been incredibly busy in the last two weeks working during the day and looking after him in the evening. I'm pooped!
Spending time with him, just us two, was really nice though. He told me lots of stories about his life which was so interesting. How little we know about those we think are closest to us...

Anyway, thank you for bearing with me in my absence. Stay tuned! I've got a couple posts planned that I can't wait to share with you. And the weather is warming up here. Spring fever has been inspiring my outfits!

Absence.

Hello Blog Friends,

Sorry for the absence. My Grandfather has been in the hospital (complications after surgery) and I've been at the hospital every day after work with him. He seems to be on the mend though, so that is good.
I'll be away until he's out and better. Thanks for understanding!

The Outfit that Never Was

I had this on the other day. I was going to wear it to the ballet. Then I figured out I wouldn't have enough time to come home after work to change out of my work clothes and into this outfit. I was also too lazy to pack it up and change at work before I went out.
So I changed into something (which I did not photograph of course...) that would suit both work and the ballet.
You my friends, get the benefit of the pictures even though I didn't get to wear it.

Vintage Rhinestone Earrings: Thrifted, Goodwill
Rhinestone Bracelets: Le Chateau
Chanel Style Jacket: Ricki's
50's/60's Black and White Sheath Dress: Vintage Glory
Black Leather Calvin Klein Heels: TownShoes

I bought this dress a month or so ago from Vintage Glory (my favorite vintage shop in Winnipeg!). I just love it. It cost me a mere $20!

And don't worry...I have worn it since I bought it. Just not to the ballet...

Good Books are like Good Friends

I went to the book store a few days ago and bought a few books I've been dying to own for some time.
I just love books. Like good vintage clothes, I can never seem to get rid of them. I love the way they smell. I love the look of a beautiful coffee table book. Books are calming. *Sigh*

They are lovely though. I bought the newest edition of Flea Market Style (this is actually a magazine, but who's counting). You know how much I love decorating.
I also bought The Fashion File. Which is the styling book by the costume designer of Mad Men, Janie Bryant (did you know she was also the costume designer on Deadwood? Love her!). I've already read it cover to cover and I bought it two days ago.
And finally, I bought Vintage Handbags by Marnie Fogg. This has been on my radar for a while since I already own Vintage Fashion and Vintage Shoes.

Have you bought any good vintage related books recently? Or, have you bought any of these books? What did you think of them? I'd love to know!

And So it Begins (Plus an Outfit!)

This week is the first week of my newest stage managing job! I'm apprentice stage managing for Theatre Projects Manitoba. They're producing a new play called The Moonlight Sonata of Beethoven Blatz by Armin Wiebe (click the link for more info on the play!).
It's a short prep week. Rehearsals start on Friday and I'm still stage manging for The Gilbert & Sullivan Society until this Sunday. So it's a full week!
Today I'm off to meet the stage manager (a friend from university) so we can move supplies to and set up the rehearsal space.
And tonight I've got rehearsal for G&S.

Here's what I'm wearing today. Not very vintage, I know, but I'll be on my hands and knees this afternoon taping the set outline onto the floor of the rehearsal space. Not a job for a vintage dress.
The T-shirt and cardigan are new. The t-shirt is Joe Fresh (I just love thier clothes! So afordable. This tee was $12!!) and I bought the cardigan on sale at Jacob this week. I hate to pay full price for trendier pieces. And I think it'll look really cuted belted over a dress when our weather warms up.
It's just so darn cold here right now (are you sick of hearing me say that?!).

Oh yeah, and the runners are new too...they asked to come home with me...they were cute...I couldn't say no...

Mermaid Pendant: Pick Up Sticks Jewelry
Watch Brooch: Thrifted
Boat Neck Anchor Tee: Joe Fresh
Periwinkle "Boyfriend" Cardigan: Jacob
Jeans: Bootlegger
Diesel Runners: TownShoes

I'm so happy to be working in theatre again! It's like coming home! :)
