My Favorite Blogs

I have a fairly long list of blogs I follow, some I check in with once in a while, but without fail I check out these lovely ladies the minute they post.
Here they are in no paricular order:

The Freelancer's Fashionblog
This may be my alltime favorite blog. I love her hairstyle tutorials, outfit posts, burlesque posts and shoe collection! She makes looking girly look so easy doesn't she?

"Call Me Lucielle"
I just found this blog last week and I'm already in love! I adore her hair and her style is to die for. She is the queen of the short and sweet post! If you're not following this blog, you should be!

Sweetheart of the Rodeo
The photography on this blog drew me in. Dakota wears head to toe vintage every day. Her casual vintage style is my favorite.

Bright Young Twins
This is another newer blog on my list, but another instant favorite. These girls have the most amazing hat collection! They're style is tops in my book!!

Esme and the Laneway
This is another blog with beautiful photography! If you love outfit posts like I do you will love this blog! It's full of them! This beautiful blogger has amazing, unique style and long hair to die for! I wish mine was as long.

Past Perfect Vintage
This blog is much different than the others on my list. This blog is connected to an online vintage shop. Most of the posts highlight items in the shop. What I like about this blog is the quality of the items in the shop and the back stories to the items which are featured. This blogger has a vast, vast knowlege about antique and vintage clothing.

Welcome to Deluxeville
I love Mary's sassy, no apologies, can-do attitude. I am also continually inspired by her decorating posts. You've got to check out her former home! A mid-century modern dream.

What are your favorite blogs? Or, send me the link to your blog! Please share! I'd love to check them out and add to my list!

More Dressing Room Storage

Earlier this year I showed you my dressing room organization project. Today I've got another installment for you!
As you know I've accumulated a number of hats this summer and I was running out of places to store them. I love looking at them and have been wanting to hang them on the wall for some time. The only problem was that I didn't want to litter the wall with nail holes only to have to refill them when I get around to decorating this room.

3M Hooks with Command Adhesive was my solution!! This product is genius! I first used it backstage at a show I did earlier this year to hang costumes on the wall for quick changes. (Note: I have not been perked for this post by 3M in any way.) They're super easy to use and come with extra adhesive strips so I can move the hooks around if I need to re-arrange my hats.
I only bought a few packages to start, but when funds allow I'll be buying more to add to the hat wall.

What do you think?

For those of you who are interested, I bought these guys. They're less than $5 a package at Home Depot.

Hats that have not found a home on the wall are being stored in a few baskets in the closet as well as a few hat boxes I've got. This one was a gift from my friend Jen for my birthday. I've been meaning to show it to you!

I've also re-jigged how I store my shoes. I used to keep all of my shoes in thier boxes stacked on this shelf, but I never seemed to put them back into the box and back onto the shelf, leaving my floor strewn with shoes and boxes. Nixing the boxes was the clear solution. Now I'll be rotating my winter and summer shoes. And I've found that the shoes always make it back onto the shelf in a timely manner! The basket on the floor next to the door in full of flats.

I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner!

Now I'm working on/thinking about a storage solution for my large purses. A pile of purses on the floor has replaced the pile of shoes as of late.
Any suggestions?

My Dream Car

The Boy and I were out doing some errands a few weeks ago and we saw this car in the parking lot at Piston Ring.

I.Am.In.Love.

The Boy tells me its a '57 Thunderbird. This picture just does not do this car justice. It was amazingly beautiful. I want to put on my prettiest dress, sunglasses and drive it around town!

Hope you're all having a great weekend!

Galavanting on My Day Off

For some odd reason I always seem to have Tuesdays off at Harlequin. I know I've said this about Fridays as well, but somehow having a Friday off doesn't seem odd...it's just a precursor to the weekend.
Having a Tuesday off seems odd...or maybe I'm just wierd...maybe both.

This is not the point of this post...I've gone off on a tangent...the point of this post is not about my wierdness and is much more vapid, as a fashion blog should be! lol! It's about what I'm wearing today.
let's get back on track...

I have the day off today. The Boy broke his toe at work a while ago and has been off on compensation. As a result, on my days off we get to spend some time together! Yeah! Today we're off to go look at a new truck he wants to buy. (not so yeah...this is boring boy stuff...) Then I'm dragging him to go pick up wallpaper samples. (revenge! haha!)
Who knows what else we'll be up to today?

This is what I'm wearing out and about in the world today. You've seen this dress before. I've styled it a little differently today.

Sunglasses: Le Chateau
Brooch: Thrifted
Silver Bangles: Gift
50's Cotton Dress: Ragpickers
Belt: Vintage Glory
Tapestry Purse: Thrifted
Black and White Flats: Joe Fresh

Welcome to all my new readers! There has been a recent increase in my followers in the last month and I've been meaning to say "Hi!" and thank you for reading! That little number on my Blog Dashboard makes me very excited when it increases! :)

I'd also like to say a big THANK YOU!! to Periwinkle Dzyns for the shout out! Click the link to see it for yourself and check out some other awesome Winnipeg bloggers!

Happy Tuesday! hehe!

Weekend Update

It's been a busy weekend! The Boy went fishing up north and took the camera with him, so I was left noticably camera-less this weekend (how I missed it!).

I kept myself busy on Saturday shopping with Mom and eating delicious steak and sundaes! Yum!

Yesterday I did this:

I finally painted my dining room shelves. And I am very happy with the results. Remember when they looked like this?

Before:

After:

And yes, I realize they are not done yet, I have to go buy wallpaper to back my shelves with. The worst part is that I thought I had it all figured out and now that the shelves are painted I'm not sure my pattern choice is any good. Shoot! Back to the paint store for more samples!

This is the wallpapaer sample I've got picked out. It's much more teal in colour in actuality. I'm not sure it's the one anymore...

I've also got to go buy new door knobs. I think I'll be purchasing glass knobs like this guy:

I'm in the home stretch though. Painting was for sure the biggest hurdle in this project. I used a dry brushing technique using Behr Paint and Primer in one so the old "wood tones" (they are particle board after all!) would show through giving the shelves some depth. I'm pleased as punch with how they turned out!

I'm also very shocked at how much crap I have stored in those babies!! This is the current state of my dining room! Yikes!!

What were you up to this weekend? Any wallpaper suggestions?

Did you notice my half primed dining chairs? They too are ready for paint! Another half done project! Woo hoo! lol!

Sweet and Simple

I haven't worn this dress in ages! For some reason it always gets passed over in my closet.

It's a great dress though, very comfortable and not too dressy for day.

The heat wave in Winnipeg continues, so I'm keeping it simple today: Shoes, Dress, bracelets. Nothing constricting or too fancy. I'm just going to work after all.

Speaking of work, I've got less than a month left at Harlequin before I start Stage Managing again! Woo Hoo! Can't wait! I am literally counting down the days.

50's/60's Purple Print dress (altered by me): Ragpickers.
Silver Bracelets: Gift from The Boy's Mom
Purple Mary Janes: Naturalizer

Grandma's Glasses

I am in possession of nearly all of my late Grandma Cotton's glasses, from the late 50's to the 80's.
Some of them are pretty bad and I can't seem to bring myself to get rid of them.

I have a few pairs that are pretty awesome though. So awesome that I'm thinking about have my prescription put into one of them and the other made into sunglasses.

They are, of course, the oldest pairs. Here they are:

Now you'd probably think I'd be making the dark pair into sunglasses, but you'd be wrong. This is the pair I'd like to put my prescription into. I'd like to make the lighter pair into rose tinted sunglasses. Right now they still have Grandma's bi-focal prescription in them and it's pretty hard to see through them! lol!

Everything is about this fuzzy through the bi-focals!

What do you think? Good idea? Do I look silly? Or cute?

Birthday Celebration

Not mine of course...as you know, mine was last month. August is my brother Matt's birthday month! (you may remember Matt's party from last year)

I always buy Matt vintage for any gift, birthday, Christmas, whatever. And this year is no exception.

Matt loves sweater vests. This one had his name written all over it.

I especially love the 40's clip on bow tie. (Both bought at Vintage Glory!)

I also picked up a little something for myself. Vintage Glory is undergoing a bit of a transformation right now. Two lovely ladies have taken over the ladies clothing. And the whole works will be moving next door in about a months time. Stay tuned for a post dedicated to this in September!

But back to the goodies...this lovely enamel brooch is from the girls at Oh So Lovely. Look at the pretty little box it came in! Love it! :)

The Boy also had his first foray into the world of vintage. He looked great in this blue western style shirt! I can't believe he bought it! I think it's my good influence on him. ;)

At any rate...here are a few photos from the party last night.

My brothers and I horsing around! We're so rarely all in the same place...it was nice.

The night ended with a nerfball fight. It was funny...and fun!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATT! Love you!
