Inspiration: More Sartorialist

I really love this girl's outfit. I'm absolutely smitten with the pull-on work boot paired with the romantic dress (skirt?).

Photo borrowed from The Sartorialist

I've been lusting after these pull on work boots since the Costumer on a show I Assistant Stage Managed a while ago sported them to every costume fitting we had. She just looked so chic, but it was easy. I want that.

I think I'll be saving for a pair for next fall.

Disgusted

I am disgusted with myself right now. I am a bad blogger. I have been sorely lacking in the post department of late. With no good reason.

Easily the most unflattering picture of myself I've ever posted on the internet. Proof of how disgusted I am with myself.

I'm too hard on myself, I feel like some days I'm just not good enough or I'm not interesting enough or my outfit isn't good enough or any number of things which keep me from posting.
It's silly really. Most of my favorite blogs are the ones where people are just themselves, perfect or imperfect posts.

I'm afraid you won't like me if I'm not the image of perfection. See? Told you it's silly.

So in order to get past this I've made a pact with myself. And have decided to challenge myself a little in the month of June.
In order to get past perfection and enter into reality (or at least let you into my reality) I will post at least one outfit photo every day in June regardless of what I'm wearing.

I'm hoping this will a) help me see that this blog is not dependant on my being an imaculate image of vintage perfection and b) push me a little not to wear jeans and a tee-shirt as much as I have been in the past week.

Do you ever feel less than perfect? Does it keep you from doing the things that you want/desire?

Dining Tablescape

More decorating! I told you, I'm obssessed again.

Here's what's sitting on my dining table at the moment. Fresh, with a hint of summer (oh please come soon!).

Remember when I said I was gonna paint the other day? I think the dining room set is first on my hit list...

Spring?

Our weather sucks. It feels like fall. Rainy, cold, windy...miserable.

I am envious of all those bloggers showing off their cute spring dresses. I had to pull this winter coat out of storage today. Ugh.

Please send some sun this way!My dresses need some love! Thanks!

A Little Decorating Update

Don't you get so excited when you put another piece of the puzzle together? That's how I'm feeling this week about my living room. It's another small step towards decorating harmony.

After 2 years, I finally hung pictures! As you know, I've had these frames sitting on the floor in my living room for ages:

I haven't really been sure what to do with them. Lots of ideas have drifted through my brain, but none really stuck or seemed right. I also wanted to keep costs down. I don't think big impact needs big dollar signs behind it.
Inspiration struck as I was sorting through my black and white family photos again recently. Why not frame some of the photos? But they are too small for my big frames. And I didn't want to spend money blowing them up. So I used scraps of leftover fabric to use as a matte and used some low tack tape to fix the photos to the fabric.

Voila! Art with impact, meaning and colour! Win, win, win!!

And the best part is that none of this is permanent. Switching out the fabric or the photos is as easy as taking down the frame and opening it up. Love it.

I missed having art hung. This is really feels like a huge step in completing the living room.

I've also got this collection to hang yet. I'm just not sure where they'll live.

I did have a miss in the living room this week though. I bought a cute table for $30 and thought it would be a perfect inexpensive alternative to this one from IKEA that I love:

Here it is:

But as you can see it's a little short. It's actually meant to be outdoors, but who would have known? I'm torn at the moment whether to keep it for another room or to return it. I really do love it still and feel like it could have a home somewhere in the house down the road (I'm a bit of a furniture hoarder).

Once again, the decorating bug has bit me hard and I'm obssessed. I think I'm gonna paint something next...but what to paint...

(Sorry for being MIA this week folks! I've been trying to post all week, but Blogger has been giving me some issues uploading photos!)

Mom

Today being Mother's Day, I thought I would do a little tribute post to my best friend: My Mom.

Me and Mom

We weren't always best friends. When I was going through puberty we fought like crazy. Oh, and when I was 21 right before I moved out. There was a small spanse of time between these two ages while I was in high school where some peace abounded, but since I've moved out my Mom and I have been really close.

We talk on the phone every morning. And usually again right before dinner. :) We talk about everything. There isn't much I don't tell her.

Mom in the 70's. Isn't she beautiful?

My Mother is an amazing woman! I always say she's like Martha Stewart without the criminal record. She is an amazing cook and baker (going out to eat always pales in comparison to her food) and loves to experiment with anything from gluten-free recipes to making Julia Child's recipes from Mastering the Art of French Cooking. She also makes beautiful fondant cakes! She gardens, her entire front yard is an amazing English style garden! She decorates and has been known to craft and draw from time to time.

In her gorgeous dining room in front of the feast for my Step-Dad's 60's Birthday Party.

Again, all dolled up for the 60th Birthday Party. This is my Grandmother's wedding suit.

Here's Grandma and Grandpa Cotton. (see the suit?) Same family that all the photos came from.

My Mom is my strength. I find myself growing to be more and more like her every day and I couldn't be happier about it.

Mom and my Step-Dad

I love you Mom! Happy Mother's Day! xoxo...

More Modeling

I did some more volunteer modeling for the Costume Museum of Canada today.

Here is one of my outfits. It's a Marie Antoinette style minuet dress. I just love it. The corset has to be done up so tightly I can barely breath in it! I do think I look absolutely silly in this photo though!

I also got to wear my favorite outfit. Seen here.

Amazing Mid Century Modern Pad!

Apologies if you've seen this before in another blog, but I just HAD to share this with you! It's the perfect marriage of my love of vintage and interior design! *Swoon*

This is the fabulous apartment of Moira Roe who lives in Toronto, Canada (!). She's been featured in Covet Garden.

Go here to see the whole magazine. I promise you won't be dissapointed!

(btw. I've been laying in my couch ALL week. Hence no posts. Last week really knocked the stuffing out of me! I'm such a delicate flower! haha!)

Homeward Bound!

I've checked out of my room, had breakfast and went to Ottawa's Museum of Nature. Now I'm sitting in the lobby lounge waiting for our shuttle to the airport. I can't wait to go home!

Museum of Nature

Ottawa is a beautiful city. I really wish I had had more time to explore and be a tourist.

Main Pariliament Building & Peace Tower

We had a great closing show last night. It was a wonderful way to end the run.

View from behind the set in our theatre. I call the show from the booth up there.

Really the worst part about going home is leaving the awesome weather here. It's +20 Celcius in Ottawa and in Winnpeg there was snow yesterday. I just hope my flight won't be delayed due to weather. Sleeping in my own bed will be pretty great though. I can't wait to see The Boy and Dave.

And because this is a fashion blog. Here's what I wore yesterday.
